Who we are

The Open Earth Project was created, is owned and is managed by Nicolas Chappaz: originally from the French d├ępartement of Haute-Savoie not far from Geneva, Ph.D (physical geography) from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and currently living in New Zealand.

The Open Earth Project is fully independent from any external individuals, organizations or vested interests.
Aims of the Open Earth Project

The Open Earth Project Aims 'to make keeping in touch with our planet as easy as a few clicks of a mouse'
The Open Earth Project aims to help you:
  • Stay close to nature,
  • Explore, roam the earth,
  • Keep up to date with events and issues,
  • See what people do,
  • Discuss, debate, share opinions.

Among intended benefits, the Open Earth Project seeks to foster enjoyment and love of the natural world through ease of access, discovery and exchange with others. It also seeks to help improve transparency of information regarding nature and the earth in general. Problems and issues thrive on remaining hidden. It is in the best interest of the global community that facts, events, issues and problems may be given the widest possible exposure, whatever their nature, wherever they occur.
How the Open Earth Project operates

This website, Open-earth.org, is open to anyone who has information about nature, and who wants to share it. In this way specific information about the natural world, on any topic, from any location on earth, is brought quickly to the attention of the widest public. A growing body of information in Open-earth.org will ever more closely reflect the earth in its diverse aspects, as well as the people who are involved in them.

Information is submitted in the form of 'documents' that may contain text, images and videos.

To create documents in Open-earth.org is entirely free. Only non-commercial information is accepted. Documents with an obvious commercial purpose run the risk of being turned down.

At this point in time all submitted documents are reviewed by an editor before publication (additional information about creating documents in our User Information page: Documents).
